Yoga
I have personally practiced yoga for over 30 years, and in 2018 I was lucky enough to be approached by one of my yoga teachers who asked if I would be interested in doing my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Course. The lady in question is a superb teacher and a personal favourite of mine, so for my own personal development, I signed up. During the course I discovered a real sense of joy in the act of teaching, helping to guide people on the amazing journey which is yoga. From here the idea of integrating yoga into Fresh Faces was born. As part of the salon renovation and rebranding, as ‘Fresh Faces Beauty & Wellbeing by Susan Hall’. In 2019/20, Jim and I created a space to be used purely for Yoga. The yoga studio is the most peaceful, tranquil and amazing space to escape from the outside world and have some time, just for yourself.
If you approach Yoga with an open mind and heart, the experience can be life changing. Yoga postures, or more correctly asanas, when performed with mindfulness become a moving meditation - allowing you to quiet the mind chatter and develop a new sense of peace and an appreciation for what your body can achieve.
The practice of yoga can teach you a whole new level of compassion for yourself and others. The realisation that just because you could achieve a certain pose yesterday, that doesn’t mean that you will be able to accomplish it again today. This can be humbling and freeing all at once, because you now know that having achieved it once, you will be able to do it again in the future. Learning to treat yourself with this sort of compassion and kindness enables you to project these same positive feelings onto others.
There are many different styles of Yoga available to learn. Try them all, until you find the right one for you - at this moment in time. You will probably find, as I did, that once you start your own yoga journey you will develop an appreciation for all the different styles of yoga and their associated benefits. Your preferred style will change with the seasons, your lifestyle, where your body and mind are at different times in your life.
Fresh Faces Yoga Studio
My
aim is to provide a tailored yoga experience for each client. For your
comfort during our time together please wear loose or stretchy clothes
(a top layer is great to allow you something to remove as you build up
heat during practice), and bring something warm for the meditation at
the end. If you can bring your own mat that would be preferable,
although I can provide one if need be. I can also provide yoga blocks,
as these can be sterilised between clients but if you have your own
please bring it along, can I ask that you bring your own yoga strap (a
dressing gown belt can make a handy alternative). I must ask that you
wear a face covering when you arrive for your 1 to 1, while on your
mat you are welcome to remove the covering but it must be replaced if
you leave the mat for any reason, and at the end of the session.
Please make sure you arrive well hydrated and have not eaten for at
least 2 hours, preferably longer.
You may have specific health or medical needs, making you a little nervous about attending a regular class. I can explain which poses you should not do, which ones you will need to modify for your safety, and assist you in discovering which poses will be the most beneficial for you. Together, and at your own pace, we can safely explore what your body is capable of, allowing you to enjoy all the wonderful benefits of a regular yoga practice. You may wish to develop a Pranayama (control of the breath) practice, or advance your existing practice by learning some new breathing techniques to relax the body and calm the mind, or enhance the concentration and clarity of thought.
Meditation,
perfect contemplation; at the end of each hour we will finish with
some meditation time. You decide how long you would like to spend in
meditation and whether you would like silence or would prefer to be
guided through the process.
To sum up – this is YOUR time, centred on you and your specific needs.
A one hour yoga session will cost £37.50. Whether you chose to come by yourself; or bring a family member or friend if you are in a social bubble, the cost will still be the same.
If
you purchase a block of 4
sessions the cost will be £137,
and you will have 3 months
to use them.

Core Focused Workshop
Core fitness is incredibly important, not just for exercise but in our everyday lives. A strong core will improve your balance and stability, something we rely on every day whether picking something up off the floor or running around with the vacuum cleaner. When out on a walk and you encounter rough terrain, perhaps your foot going down a ditch, it is your core muscles which stop you from falling over. Poor core stability leads to poor posture and slouching, often causing lower back pain, and may lead to back injury.
The
start date would be the first of a block
of four, 45 minute classes occurring on the same day
and at the same time every other week. Please let me know which
date would work for you. If both options would suit, please let
me know your order of preference. The cost of the course is £43
per person. To secure a place will require a 50%
deposit with the balance due on the first day of the
block.
Chair Session
Whenever
we practice yoga we are making use of props, some like a chair a
block or strap are very obviously, others like your good old
faithful yoga mat are a little less obvious. Through
the use of props we can explore our practice in a safer, more
supported environment, they enable us to move more deeply into
a posture with better alignment and support, stretching or
building strength in the targeted muscles. Chair yoga can make
yoga more accessible to so many people, a chair can allow
those with limited time and space to fit in a lunch time yoga
session at their desk. It removes the need to come down onto
the mat, and often more significantly to come all the way back
up from the ground or it can make yoga more accessible after
periods of inactivity or after recovering from an illness.
I have always embraced the use of props in
my teaching, so developing a Chair Yoga Class seemed like a natural
progression. I (virtually) attended an online training course back
at the beginning of 2021 and have been meaning to put that training
to good use ever since. Some of my more recent training courses
ended up taking priority, namely the Restorative and Yin training. I
promised myself that I would attend no new training courses after
completing the Yin, to allow myself time to dive back into the Chair
Training, and that is exactly what I did.
This session is a 1 hour workshop to introduce this form of
practicing Yoga, it includes some flexibility and mobility practices
and a Sun Salutation Sequence.
The
60 minute Chair session will
be priced at £13 per
person.
Restorative Session
A restorative practice provides the support the body often needs to
help to truly relax, it is a very passive practice which embodies
the qualities of yin (quiet, introspective, slow, spacious).
Physically it reduces muscle and connective tissue tension,
psychologically strengthening one’s relationship with the body
giving you time to switch off the autopilot and simply be still. By
practicing in a group setting it gives a sense of community while
still honouring the stillness.

Yin Yoga Session
Yin
is a slow and nurturing practice, based around mat based asanas with
and without the use of props, we hold these poses for a longer
period to allow the magic to happen within the connective tissues of
the body.
The benefits of practicing Yin Yoga are many. Physically, it will
increase hydration within the tissues, improve circulation of blood
and lymph, stimulate cells to produce more collagen, assist in
untangling areas of scar tissue and improve range of motion
throughout the body. Psychologically it increases our mind body
connection increasing proprioceptive awareness, encouraging
curiosity and introspection. It helps us to learn to be ok with the
tension, with being fully present in stillness, discovering that
sometimes physical tension also stems from the mind and with some
controlled breathing and awareness this tension can be released both
physically and emotionally. By practicing in a group setting it
gives a sense of community while still honouring the stillness.

Fresh
Yoga
While I was doing my teacher training my friend and I were holding a weekly class for friends and family, when it was coming towards the end of my training, I realised just how much I was going to miss it. I love working on a ‘one to one’ basis, I have personally experienced just how much your practice will improve from this style of teaching. However, being in a class environment can be such a nurturing experience, full of positive energy and mutual support, which can also be very beneficial to your practice. Each week I would come up with a different Vinyasa Flow for the class, and I found I was still creating them for myself, so why not share them.
